Ephesians 4:29
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.
This is a great message for the New Year.
We can be in control of our own words.
As a mother, I used to tell my children to use their words to explain what was happening in their minds.
I tried to help them find the right words.
Words that would help the situation and not make it worse.
I must do the same thing when talking to them.
It’s important to use words that do not damage their spirits.
Words that lift up instead of tear down.
Even though my children have grown, I still want to be careful how I speak to them because my worlds will impact them for the rest of their lives.
It doesn’t matter that they are all adults now.
They may look like they can handle a more flippant conversation, but I still need to be careful about what I say, how I say it, and the emotion I put into it.
Paul tells us to, “Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth.”
Let us say uplifting and encouraging words to one another that instill a closer walk with God in this New Year.
Today I choose to use words that will bless those around me.
May you find the Lord will assist you in choosing and using words to bless others as well.
Daily Prayer:
O Lord, thank You for Your Word that reminds us to choose words to bless others. Father, please forgive the words we have spoken that hurt and do not further Your plan. Help us be mindful of every word we speak. Help us use our words to build up instead of tear down. May Your Holy Spirit guide our speech today and every day of the New Year. May Your grace be upon us. May Your mercy flow over us. Strengthen us to follow You in all ways, Lord. Help us bless someone this day. Thank You for hearing our prayer.
Answer: I AM holy, and I will consecrate your hearts to make you holy. Give your speech to Me, and I will make it holy as well.
Response: Help us surrender our thoughts and words to You, almighty God. In Jesus’ name, amen.
